SATURDAY 12.12.2009 DOORS @ 9PM

East Nile Presents a demented Holiday Rock and Art Party taking place at West OaklandÕs historic Continental Club.  The show will feature some of the Bay AreaÕs best experimental rock and pop bands, including the critically acclaimed Magik Markers, the twisted surf pop of Sic Alps, and hometown heroes Gowns.  The party will also include a gift exchange, manic Santa, a mistletoe kissing booth and free punch before 9:30.  FREE ADMISSION for anyone dressed as a convincing Santa Claus or Freddy Krueger.

CONTINENTAL CLUB: The erstwhile post-MoTown vibe of this historic venue makes it worth choosing the East Bay version of this show over the similar lineup (minus GOWNS) that is taking place at the Hemlock the night before.  With red velvet curtains and dusty crystal chandeliers, the Continental Club recalls West OaklandÕs bygone glamour days.

MAGIK MARKERS:  One of the most critically acclaimed experimental acts performing today, Magik Markers have honed their spastic Òferal noiseÓ into songs and melodies on their latest release ÒBalf QuarryÓ, out now on Drag City.

GOWNS:  Although various recent press has pegged them as one of the best bands in LA, GOWNS have long been an Oakland staple, playing a series of electrifying live shows (here and abroad), that caused Pitchfork to declare them Òone of the most heart-stoppingly great live bands on EarthÓ.

SIC ALPS:  Prolific and distinct, this core due of Mike Donovan and Matt Valentine have created a signature sound of vintage guitars and crackling analog gear.  Full of soaring vocals and surf hooks, this band could have the crowd dancing underneath the Continental ClubÕs twinkling chandeliers.
